German golfers prepared to invest further in their holidays

New research gathered at IGTM in October 2025 reveals much about German golf travel trends – and the full report is available now to buy

Research from Sporting Insights shows that over 20 per cent of German golfers believe future spend on golf trips will increase in the next 12 months.

Following this year’s edition of the International Golf Travel Market (IGTM) held in Cannes in October, Sporting Insights carried out a report which surveyed the golf travel and tourism habits of core golfers from Germany in 2025.

Data showed that, although the majority of golfers believe that future spending on golf trips will stay the same in future, a significant proportion also believe that this will increase.

Data from Germany in 2025 also shows that the expense of accommodation was significantly greater when compared with other categories such as the core golf package, food and beverage, green fees, travel and other activities.

The research showed that golfers under 40 years of age spent significantly less on golf trips than golfers over the age of 70, while the average spend of lower handicap golfers was more than that of a high handicap golfer.

Erica Healy, Head of Research at Sporting Insights, explained how the data is gathered and the range of topics that golfers are questioned on:

“It's always done in a similar way, basically a survey. We have partnerships with lots of golfer different databases in different countries, so they would send it out to their golfers, so you know that the ones answering it, they're your core people, not just to occasionally go for a knock around. They are the proper golfers if you like.

“There are usually a fairly consistent core set of questions about where people have been or where they'd like to go, and then there's a bit of a focus on something that's more topical.

“There were some questions about spending there, and a little bit more detail just generally on what they do. But there is all that information, the booking, how far ahead they book, what kind of thing they book, if it’s a package, or separate stuff, accommodation - and then what influences them.

“Anybody reading one of them should be able to, by the end, have a nice feeling of what golfers in that particular country are like in terms of their travel, and what motivates them to choose where as a place,” said Healy.
